Access from host to virtual machine

Tutorial to run service ui backend at host and connect to PLC at virtual machine.

  • Check if a firewall (windows or F-Secure) is blocking traffic, disable it or adjust settings. Further informations for firewall settings whan having connection problems: Siemens Tools - ServiceUI-Logger
  • Use only NAT network adapter between host and virtual machine. Consider that activated bridged network adapter and disabled firewall is a security issue.

  • Set fix IP address at virtual machine, that IP address never changes.

  • Check if ping works from host to virtual machine
  • Set fix IP address at B&R Automation Studio

    Probably clean, rebuild is required to activate new IP settings to ArSim.
  • Now access from host to virtual machine should works. Check it with browser running at host and connect to B&R web server with http://FIX_IP_ADDRESS
  • Start Service Ui backend at host and connect to PLC at virtual machine with fix IP as PLC host address at configuration.

Constraints

With fix IP at Automation Studio Ethernet Parameters and Service Ui backend (UPconnect) running at virtual machine:

Service Ui / Configuration Connect / PLC host: Use fix IP address, since with 127.0.0.1 or localhost no OPC-UA connection established!
